full circle

7pm, the bar next to the car wash, everyone is invited.

People greeted each other, overly excited and obviously awkward. With each new ding, the expected number of people reduced and people fell back to small talks. "How have you been doing?" "you're so pretty now," "omg I missed you so much." After much chatter, Joanne found herself in the high-rise table. As if there was an unspoken promise, everyone stopped talking at the same time and silence fell upon the table. They looked at each other, wanting to break the ice but also bringing back the old feelings for each other.

There were only six of them. Joanne was facing the five biggest enemies of her life. The ones that built her and broke her at the same time.

Henry was sitting right next to her. He was probably at least the nicest one out of them all. Although he didn't know how to feel for Jo and often made stupid comments, he had the kindest intentions. They had also known each other for the longest time. For 10 years, Henry had been kind to Jo but turned his back on her when she rejected his love confession. It wasn't much of a confession to Jo, she'd known it all along, which is why the confession was so much more disappointing. She always wanted Henry to know that she would have dated him if he had confessed otherwise, but Henry was furious not long after. He didn't give Joanne a chance to make up.

Next to Henry was Markus, the joker. The biggest joker of the entire class. Jo never liked him since the day he walked into class. Markus had announced to the class that Jo was a geek on the first day of 7th grade. That was a great day for Jo. They did get along some way down the road just because Henry and Markus were good friends. Markus had never liked Jo either. She had the kind of eyes that looked through Markus and he always felt like she was looking down on him. He hated losing to her, but there wasn't anything he could win her with from the first place.

Markus sat next to Vanice. He had always liked Vanice but Vanice had liked everyone. Furthermore, Vanice was liked by everyone. She had the nicest smile in the crowd and won conversations with just about anyone. She weaved her way into everyone's relationships and left them broken. Jo was not an exception. Vanice had ruined Jo and Fanny's friendship. Yet it was Vanice who made the rest of Jo's highschool days glamourous and glistening in victory. Everyone liked Vanice but everyone also swore to never let Vanice get in their life.

Vanice was linking arms with Fanny. Somehow after breaking Fanny and Jo, Vanice seemed to have become Fanny's next best friend. It was confusing. Fanny was a confusing person to Jo. They had inseparable days - starting the day sitting next to each other, linking arms to every single class, and texting through late nights just to meet each other again the next morning. They were invincible. The entire school had known about Jo and Fanny, the funny yet charming duo who did crazy things together every day. Then one day it stopped. It had to stop. Jo walked away from Fanny who was yelling like a madwoman. She was a madwoman.

Fanny sat next to her ex, John. He was also Jo's best friend at one point. Jo believed their friendship ended only because John was interested in Fanny. Like all the high school girls, Jo refused to believe that she had feelings for John and was upset when he asked Fanny out. She had been the one to strongly advise Fanny to reject John. That worked once but when Fanny and Jo ended their friendship, John became the new Jo.

John had the worst seat in the entire group. He was between Fanny and Jo, who both had mixed feelings for John. Between Fanny and Jo who had so much more mixed feelings for each other. They didn't know how to hold a conversation without revealing any feelings. So they kept silent and looked away from each other.

With John, the circle had been completed. The six besties of highschool back in one circle, they watched each other in silence while a million thoughts dashed across the table.
